Ms. Full-Figured D.M.V. 2nd Runner Up 2018 Lauren Mullins
Lauren Mullins was born and raised in Paterson, NJ and is now a proud resident of Petersburg, VA. Motivated, goofy, shy and always willing to lend a helping hand, Lauren has always been a philanthropist. Serving others at a young age through volunteering for several organizations including The Salvation Army, The Paterson Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity and local churches and group homes, is where Lauren found her passion. While attending Virginia State University she joined the first black greek sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, whose motto is “Service to all mankind”.
Committed to furthering her education undergrad, Lauren completed her Masters of Education in Community and School Counseling to continue to help those in need and began her career at Poplar Springs Hospital for behavioral health, it was while working there where Lauren began working with the military population. Working with this population quickly became a passion that hits close to home because her mother served 24 years in the United States Army National Guard. She birthed her platform called “Healing Our Heroes” which advocates and assists with ensuring that active duty service members and veterans receive the proper behavioral health treatment for combat related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as known as PTSD. Through advocating Lauren wants to bring awareness to this issue and educate others on the battles this population faces daily. Lauren asks for everyone to continue to support the heroes that sacrifice their lives and families every day to serve our country, the United States of America. Remember we are the land of the free, because of the brave!
