Ms. Full-Figured D.M.V. Plus 2nd Runner Up 2018 Ashley Miller
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” This is the philosophy that twenty-three year-old Ashley Miller lives by. She was born on February 22, 1995 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland to Herbert and Mary Miller. In her younger years Ashley always remained focused on her dreams, believing that hard work and dedication will aid her on the path to success. Recently, Ashley received her degree in Social Work at the undergraduate level from Norfolk State University. Ashley has aspirations of continuing her education and hopes to work with young children.
Ashley’s love for pageantry started when she participated in her first pageant at eleven years old. Throughout her years competing, her confidence and drive for pageantry has grown. This love followed her throughout her middle and high school years into college. In 2016, Ashley competed in the Miss Norfolk State University pageant with the platform of Be(YOU)tiful NSU. She used this platform to encourage all students and community members to embrace who they are. She also participated in the Miss Beautiful and Bold pageant, the first full Figured pageant at her university. She later her passion for pageants backstage and served as coach and mentor for the Miss Beautiful and Bold pageant at Norfolk State. Ashley then used her platform as inspiration to become the co-founder of her very own student organization, Kween’s Kourt. The very first plus size empowerment and community service organization on her campus.
Ashley also shined on her campus academically as a Junior Fellow in her universities Honors College, and as a member of Golden Key International Honour Society. Since attending Norfolk State University she became very active on campus as a member of many professional and student organizations. She served as President of many organizations, as well as community service chair for Student Activities Board, a member of the League of Extraordinary Women, and as a Resident Assistant.
As a future social worker, community service, human rights and justice have remained at the forefront of Ashley’s mind. Her current platform of child hunger awareness and prevention manifested as a result of her work in the community. She has spent many years volunteering her time in food banks, homeless shelters, and food pantries helping those who experience hunger every day. From this work, the issue of child hunger became a topic that Ashley hoped to bring more light to. Through the coordination of many canned food drives, preparing weekend food backpacks for needy children, and continuing to serve the community, Ashley is doing just that.
In her free time she spends it building stronger relationships with her friends and family, listening to music, shopping and sharing her passions on her YouTube channel. At a young age she can proudly say that she has accomplished many things in life, with a strong belief in her dreams and aspirations Ashley will continue to strive for success, meeting every opportunity that life presents with fervour and determination.
