Christy is a native of Bishopville, South Carolina and currently resides in Jessup, Maryland. Dr. Christy Thompson is the Executive Director, Division of Student Support, Academic Enrichment, and Educational Policy at the Maryland State Department of Education. She has twenty-six years of experience ranging from in education to include experiences ranging from classroom teacher, assistant principal, vice-principal of curriculum, principal and Executive Director of Secondary Schools and Alternative Programs.
Christy is a graduate of Capella University, where she received a Doctoral of Education in Leadership and Management. She also holds a Master of Education degree from Florida A&M University in Administration and Supervision and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from Johnson C. Smith University.
She is a strong advocate for all students receiving a high quality, free and appropriate education. An essential professional interest is to research effective strategies to engage parents of at-risk students. It is pertinent for parents to actively participate in the educational process to ensure the highest probability of their child (ren) graduating from high school towards enrollment in a post- secondary institution. “Children are the heart of my work!”
Christy is a member of the following professional organizations: South Carolina Association of School Administrators, Phi Delta Kappa Professional Education, National Alliance of Black School Educators and Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. She published a dissertation July 2015 entitled, “Evaluating the Effects of the Parents’ Acquisition of Knowledge and Skills and Abilities on At Risk 9th Graders Student Achievement”; moreover honored as a Graduate of Distinction for 4.0 G.P.A..
